In the vibrant streets of Brooklyn, Savannah Spiced stands as a culinary treasure deeply rooted in the rich traditions of the Caribbean. Led by a Trinidadian and Grenadian native, Savannah Spice is more than just a restaurant; it’s a love story, a cultural journey, and a celebration of Caribbean heritage that goes beyond borders.
The love story began with owner, Natalie Lamming Alexander. Her culinary journey started with her first restaurant, d’Savannah, on Flatbush in Brooklyn. The name "Savannah" was inspired by Queen’s Park Savannah in Trinidad and Tobago, a place of deep personal significance to her. "The Savannah in Trinidad is like Central Park of the island… it’s where people gather to exercise, enjoy great food, and celebrate Carnival. Naming my first venture after something so close to my heart was only natural," she explained. When they met, Natalie and her husband, Davis Alexander, shared a passion for food and drink. Together, they blended their cultural heritage to create the one-of-a-kind fusion Savannah Spiced offers. Combining her Trinidadian roots with his Grenadian legacy, the name reflects a unique blend of spiciest Caribbean flavors, much like the Island of Spice, Grenada is infamous for.
At Savannah Spiced, the menu transcends mere dishes and conversational pieces. Forging a connection between generations is what this Caribbean staple cuisine embodies. "Our love story is the soul and spirit of our company." Every dish, and sip, has a distinct flair of love and legacy sewn into it.
Here, Natalie and her loving husband, Davis Alexander share the story of overcoming entrepreneurship hurdles, staying openhearted, and pouring affection into every meal on those vibrant streets of Brooklyn.
