Exhibition Details
Open to the public from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. The event will showcase interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and community-driven solutions in key sectors such as climate change adaptation, renewable energy, marine conservation, waste management, and green construction.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on Monday, April 28, at 9:00 am. It will feature remarks from CARICOM and OECS officials, government representatives, and leaders in environmental sustainability. Delegates and invited guests will then be guided through the exhibition.
Objectives and Highlights
“This exhibition is not only a celebration of Caribbean resilience and innovation,” said a spokesperson from the Department of Environment, “it is also a call to action—encouraging our communities, especially youth, to engage with sustainable development and climate-smart solutions.”
The exhibition will feature a dynamic mix of regional and local exhibitors. Nine organizations from Antigua and Barbuda will join forces with regional agencies, including those under the OECS umbrella, to highlight the Caribbean’s progress in key environmental sectors.
Student Innovations and School Engagement
A major highlight will be the display of student innovations. Young participants from vocational and training programs, such as the Climate Leaders Fellowship Program, will present various practical projects. These include hurricane shutters, park benches, and school bookshelves, all built using sustainable materials and supported by the GCF Build Project.
School engagement is another central focus of the exhibition. Groups from primary and secondary schools across Antigua and Barbuda will attend guided tours designed to expose students to career opportunities in green industries and deepen their understanding of the importance of environmental stewardship.
Interactive Demonstrations
Visitors will also experience a variety of interactive demonstrations. Hands-on displays will showcase the latest solar energy technology, eco-friendly construction tools, and waste recycling innovations, offering practical insights into how sustainable technologies can be applied in everyday life.
Conclusion
The Environmental Sustainability Exhibition promises to be an inspiring and educational event. It will celebrate innovation, empower communities, and chart a path toward a greener, more resilient Caribbean future.
