Introducing PriceCheck: A New Online Tool for Smart Shopping in Barbados

The Government of Barbados has launched a new website app called PriceCheck, designed to help individuals find the best prices on various goods and products, making it easier for them to make informed purchasing decisions.

About the App

The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, part of the Ministry of Energy and Business, introduced the app during a media event at the Warrens Office Complex. To use the app, individuals can visit www.pricecheck.gov.bb.

How the App Works

The app works as a system to show what products are available in the market, where to find them, and how much they cost. It will be introduced in four stages: Phase One will allow users to search for products, view available brands, and see where to buy them and at what price, with a focus on major supermarket chains.

Partnerships and Collaborations

The app is designed in collaboration with various officials, including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and features a “healthy food basket” that tracks prices to help consumers understand the cost of eating healthy versus other options.

Benefits for Consumers and Businesses

Infolytics CEO Quinn Weekes described the app as a tool to help consumers save time by comparing prices, doing their own analysis, and utilizing data produced on the site. He encouraged consumers to share their feedback, as the app is a work in progress.

Additionally, the app currently provides information from 12 major supermarkets, with the aim of updating prices in real-time in Phase Two.
