Belize and Taiwan Collaborate on Women’s Economic Empowerment

The Government of Belize has taken a significant step towards enhancing women’s economic empowerment by signing an agreement with Taiwan to fund a new project titled “Increasing Economic Power for Micro-Entrepreneurs.

New Project Aimed at Economic Empowerment

This initiative is part of a broader bilateral cooperation agreement focusing on empowering women in Latin America and the Caribbean in the post-COVID-19 era.

According to the press release, the project “seeks to increase women’s economic power by building their capacity for small business development, digital marketing and access to capital,”

This aligns with the Belizean government’s commitment to implementing the National Gender Policy and the Plan Belize Medium Term Development Strategy.

The initiative recognizes the crucial role of women’s economic participation in national development.

As stated in the release, “Women’s economic participation is a key strategy for reducing poverty, while boosting economic growth and fostering social cohesion.”

The Family Support and Gender Affairs Department of the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs will be responsible for implementing the project.

Women from several areas, including Corozal District, Belize City, San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town, and Dangriga Town, are being encouraged to participate in the program.
