West Indies White-Ball Head Coach Daren Sammy to Lead Test Team
Daren Sammy, the successful white-ball head coach of the West Indies, has been appointed to lead the Test team, effective April 1, 2025. The announcement was made at a Cricket West Indies (CWI) quarterly press conference on Monday.
Success in White-Ball Formats
Sammy has been instrumental in the success of the West Indies’ T20 and ODI teams, winning 20 of 35 matches and 15 of 28 matches, respectively, since taking over as head coach 18 months ago.
Expansion of Role
The CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, revealed that Sammy’s contract would be renewed, and he would take over the reins of the Test team, effective April 1, 2025. Bascombe praised Sammy’s leadership and believed he could help turn the Test team’s fortunes around.
