Dr York, a son of the soil and former youth development worker on Nevis, was one of many community leaders who delivered dynamic messages of empowerment, bringing interruption to the cycles of crime and violence.
The Event
Dr York is a passionate community leader and advocate for all things youth and mental health. As a community leader of the vibrant protect next GEN foundation out of St. Maarten, where he currently resides, he took the opportunity to introduce the Nevisian students to their ongoing campaign; where they aim to normalize the question “Are You Ok?”
The Powerful Question
During his presentation, he asked: How many of your parents and teachers take the time to ask you…are you OK?
Many of the students replied that no one usually asked them that question.
The Impact
Minister of Education, Hon. Troy Liburd and Dr Lucien York
He challenged the students to make it their business to start asking each other if they are OK? Students took on the challenge and right there and then expressed a very moving moment.
