NIA Makes Progress in Island’s Water Development Project
Premier Honorable Mark Brantley gave an update on the project during his November 21 press conference.
Update on Project Progress
According to the Premier, the intention is to drill nine wells. Two have already been completed, both in the Maddens area. The first well is close to the Maddens water storage tank, with a depth of 705 feet and a water table at 505 feet.
The second well has a depth of 505 feet and a water table at 265 feet. It is currently being pump tested at 125 gallons a minute or 180,000 gallons per day. The next site to be drilled will be Dasent’s Estate. Groundwater monitors have been installed and thus far, five have been installed.
Upcoming Pump Testing
Pump testing on the first well is due to commence this week.
Background on the NIA Water Development Project
The National Investment Agency (NIA) has been engaged in the deliberate and systematic development of the island’s water systems over the past few years. The agency has been investing in increasing the supply, enhancing storage capacity, and upgrading the distribution system.
This water project has been an ongoing effort for at least the last seven or eight years. The Premier praised the Administration’s approach to executing projects, stating, “So when we find more water we have storage for it and we have a way to get it to you. I think that that deserves some credit because it demonstrates how the Administration thinks and how we go about executing projects over several years.”
This project is expected to cost tens of millions of dollars when completed.
Conclusion
The NIA’s water development project is a testament to the Administration’s commitment to improving the island’s water systems. The project’s progress is a significant achievement, and its completion is expected to provide a reliable and sustainable source of water for the island’s residents.
