ECGC Officials Visit Nevis

ECGC Officials Visit Nevis to Strengthen Partnership with Nevis Island Administration

Introduction

By Rick Amburgey

Officials from the East Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC) paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture Hon. Eric Evelyn, as part of efforts to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the company and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA).

The Visit

The visiting team included Chief Executive Officer J. Robert Cato and Head of Commercial and Innovation Mark Hillock. The NIA and ECGC have enjoyed a productive partnership over the years, particularly in supporting local farmers and agricultural initiatives.

Hon. Evelyn described the visit as part of the NIA’s broader efforts to deepen ties with its allied agencies.

“It is certainly always a privilege and an honour to host our allied agencies and partners, and of course that includes our friends at the East Caribbean Group of Companies,” he said. “I must say that the ECGC officials, whenever they visit the Federation, they always make it their point of business to visit the island of Nevis.”

Support to the Farming Community

He acknowledged the significant support the ECGC has provided to the island’s farming community.

“We have benefited from the ECGC during storms, when they would send feed. Our livestock farmers have also recently benefited from a price reduction in feed,” he noted.

The partnership extends beyond feed assistance. ECGC has also contributed to several community-based initiatives.

“They assist annually by donating prizes for our annual Fruit Festival, and they are now also a part of our Agri Expo on an annual basis,” Evelyn shared. “They have come, they love the experience, they value the exposure they receive at the Agri Expo, and they are in love with our products—especially from the abattoir.”

Donation to Enhance Meat Production

He also revealed that the ECGC recently made a generous donation to enhance meat production at the abattoir.

“We needed a new patty machine because of the huge demand for patties from the abattoir. We made a request, and ECGC delivered by donating the machine last November,” he said.

Conclusion

The visit underscored ECGC’s continued commitment to supporting agricultural development on the island and fostering stronger collaboration with the NIA.
