Guyana captured the Short Range title at the 2023 West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships
The Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) is poised to host the 2024 edition of the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championship from October 28 to November 4 at the Timehri Rifle Ranges on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Championship Details
- The championship was last hosted in Guyana in 2017, when the GNRA celebrated its 150th anniversary.
- Participants from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and the USA are expected to compete.
- The US rifle team, led by captain Yvonne Roberts, will attend its first West Indies Championship.
- Guyana, the defending champions in the Short and Long Range divisions, is expected to field a 10-man team.
Team Composition
- The team comprises Mahendra Persaud, Dylan Fields, Leo Romalho, Lennox Braithwaite, Ryan Sampson, Peter Persaud, Roberto Tewari, Sherwin Felicien, and US-based Sigmond Douglas and John Fraser.
- The lone female is Althea Alleyne.
Preparations Underway
- The GNRA planning committee has been working jointly with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), led by Brigadier Omar Khan, on preparations for hosting the championships.
- The Timehri Ranges are being prepared, with work focusing on shooting banks to golf-like playing surfaces, the safety backstop increased in height, and the 24-target mechanism serviced.
GNRA’s Infrastructure Work
- Vice-president Mahendra Persaud and Fullbore captain Dylan Fields have been spearheading the infrastructural work.
- Lennox Braithwaite has been the GNRA projects liaison, ensuring all works are completed.
- The GDF is expected to complete the area for the flag poles and other works it has committed to.

- The GNRA would like to take this opportunity to thank the Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, for his donation of material to help repair the shooting range.
