Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, has provided an update to the public on the government’s efforts to enhance ambulance services in St. Kitts and Nevis.
In November 2024, the government announced plans to procure a fleet of four state-of-the-art ambulances. However, due to unforeseen global challenges, delivery has been delayed, with the new expected arrival date now set for October this year.
To maintain adequate ambulance coverage in the meantime, Dr. Drew revealed that by the end of May, the government expects to acquire approximately four additional units that, while not brand new, are in excellent condition.
Dr. Drew expressed gratitude to the TDC Group for their assistance in temporarily boosting the national fleet and helping to repair one or two of the existing ambulances.
Highlighting the cost and critical importance of emergency vehicles, Dr. Drew noted that ambulances are expensive but absolutely essential. He expressed confidence that once the new ambulances arrive, the country will be well-equipped for the foreseeable future.
He also reminded the public of the dangers faced by ambulance crews, citing past accidents involving emergency vehicles, and appealed to motorists to drive safely and respect road regulations to help save lives.
