The Government of the Virgin Islands will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the life and legacy of the late H. Lavity Stoutt on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Known as one of the Territory’s greatest leaders and a National Hero, this year’s theme is “Heroes Live Forever.”
Special Concert to Honor Stoutt’s Life
Kareem-Nelson Hull, Director of Protocol and Chair of the Planning Committee, invites the public to a special concert that will honor Stoutt’s life through song, music, and dance. The event will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Atrium of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College under two themes: The Church Man He Was and The Country’s Man He Became.
Wreath Laying Ceremony
On Monday, March 3, a Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at the Cappoons Bay Cemetery.
About H. Lavity Stoutt
Born on March 7, 1929, H. Lavity Stoutt served as an elected representative from 1957 to 1995 and became the first Chief Minister of the Virgin Islands. He is celebrated for significant achievements, including establishing the cruise ship pier, building the Central Administration Complex, and founding the local community college named after him. He passed away on May 14, 1995.

Each year, the Virgin Islands honors Stoutt’s contributions with a public holiday on the first Monday in March, marking his historic role as a leader.
