Jon Stewart blasts critics of his ‘Daily Show’ return

Jon Stewart knows just how to turn his haters into punchlines.

The 61-year-old host of “The Daily Show” made his return to the program last week after nearly a decade away from the desk. 

On Monday’s show, he reacted to people’s opinions of his revival from X, the platform previously known as Twitter.

Displeased ex-MSNBC star Keith Olbermann tweeted, “Well after nine years away, there’s nothing else to say to the bothsidesist fraud Jon Stewart bashing Biden, except: Please make it another nine years.”

Stewart seemingly was not fazed by the critics and reacted to the feedback on camera, saying, “I’ve seen people on Twitter tell Labradoodles to go f–k themselves. Labradoodles!”

Former President Donald Trump’s anti-Trump niece Mary L. Trump also wrote, “Not only is Stewart’s ‘both sides are the same’ rhetoric not funny, it’s a potential disaster for democracy. I have thoughts . . .”

Stewart scream replied, “It was one f–king show! It was just one f–king show! It was 20 minutes. I did 20 minutes in one f–king show! But I guess, as the famous saying goes: ‘Democracy dies in discussion.’”

He then joked, “It was never my intention to say out loud what I saw with my eyes and then brain. I can do better.”

While people online may have had negative critiques about Stewart’s first shows back, a source told Page Six last week that the late-night veteran received “multiple standing ovations” from his in-studio audience last Monday.

“The audience went nuts,” the insider added, claiming there was “incredible energy in the room.”

“They had a playlist of music, songs and artists that Jon loves,” said the source.

Stewart first hosted the Comedy Central satirical news program from 1999 until 2015. Trevor Noah took over his spot until leaving the show in December 2022.

He will occupy the host’s chair on Monday night leading up to the 2024 presidential election in November.

“Why am I back?” Stewart said on the show last week. “I have committed a lot of crimes. From what I understand, talk show hosts are granted immunity — it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but take it up with the founders.”
