County Mayor’s Message
“As we launch National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we reaffirm our commitment to ending the cycle of violence in our community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Our dedication to combating domestic violence is unwavering. Together, we can build a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard. Let’s work together to break the silence and create lasting change.”
About National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Since its establishment in 1987, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month has brought communities across the nation together to address this critical issue. Each year, over 12 million women and men become victims of intimate partner violence in the U.S., with one in three women and one in four men experiencing physical abuse at some point in their lives. Domestic violence accounts for 15% of all violent crimes annually, highlighting its significance as a public health concern.
CAHSD’s Commitment
This ceremony marks the start of a month-long initiative dedicated to raising awareness about domestic and intimate partner violence, while highlighting resources available to support survivors in the community. For over 30 years, CAHSD has offered essential services including emergency sheltering, counseling, and safety planning to individuals and families affected.
Assistant Director’s Statement
“We are committed to supporting survivors, raising awareness, and fostering community collaboration in the fight against domestic violence,” said Tania Avellanet, Assistant Director of CAHSD. “This kickoff event is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to empower survivors and strengthen the support networks available to them.”
