Minister of State Commends Volunteers for Day of Interruption
Minister of State, the Honourable Isalean Phillip, Co-chairs the Citizen Security Task Force
Basseterre, St. Kitts – Senior government officials, social influencers, community leaders, and other participants in the Day of Interruption on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, were praised for their strong volunteerism, as the government addresses antisocial behaviour in schools.
The Day of Interruption was a nationwide student intervention against crime and violence organized by the Citizen Security Secretariat. It featured Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, Senior Minister, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of State, the Honourable Isalean Phillip, members of the police high command, executives of political parties, rehabilitated prison inmates, and former inmates, faith-based leaders, entertainers, sports personalities, community leaders, and others visiting public and private, primary and secondary schools across St. Kitts. They shared positive messages during the special assemblies and strongly encouraged the students to reject bullying, negative peer pressure, and acts of crime and violence.
Minister of State Phillip serves as the Co-chair of the Citizen Security Task Force. She commended the support of the numerous volunteers during the National Assembly sitting on February 27, 2025.
"All of us need to take individual and collective responsibility in creating a safe and peaceful co-existence in St. Kitts and Nevis. Peace and citizen security are not something any government can buy or force on the people. We all need to accept a personal and civic responsibility to be caring, kind, and peaceful people. I was quite pleased about the willingness and participation of all stakeholders who participated. I must also express special commendation to the community volunteers who responded favourably to invitations to participate in school assemblies as motivational speakers," Honourable Phillip stated.
