Police Condemn Recent Surge in Robberies, Larcenies, and Theft in St. Kitts and Nevis
Statement by Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force
The Police High Command has issued a statement condemning the perpetrators of a recent spate of robberies, larcenies, and thefts that have been a source of concern to citizens in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Uptick in Criminal Activity
During April and May 2023, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis recorded an uptick in the number and frequency of robberies, larcenies, and thefts.
Police Commitment to Safety and Security
As a law enforcement and National Security Agency, the RSCNPF strongly condemns all acts of violence, vandalism, theft, and any legal infractions or illegal acts committed against one or many, said the statement from the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force.
Accepting that the Police Force holds chief responsibility for the safety and security of all citizens, residents, and visitors in the Federation, the Police assured that they have been actively monitoring these developments, engaging strategic methods of operation, and working diligently to curb this surge in criminal activity.
Arrests and Charges
They added, “Thus far, our efforts have not been in vain; two males, namely Akeem Sage and Prince Patterson, have already been arrested and charged for a number of armed robberies committed on St. Kitts in April.”
Reason for Increase in Illegal Activities
From past experiences, the Police have attributed part of the reason for the increase in these illegal activities to “an increase in large social gatherings, fetes, events, and festivals during the Summer months. This increase in socialising creates a number of conditions and situations in which criminal elements feel emboldened to commit nefarious acts against law-abiding citizens and residents.”
They said that one such example, connected to a large event, occurred on 28th May, 2023, when multiple larcenies on unattended vehicles were reported as having occurred at Cockleshell Bay, on the Southeast Peninsula.
