Suriname’s Second International Business Conference and Diaspora Business Summit
Government Optimistic about Conference’s Impact on Prosperity and Growth
Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation (BIBIS) Minister, Albert Ramdin addressing the media ahead of the conference
The Suriname government remains optimistic that the second International Business Conference (IBC) and Diaspora Business Summit will help promote prosperity and growth in the Dutch-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country.
Three-Day IBC Conference and First Diaspora Business Summit
The three-day IBC conference begins here on February 4, while the first Diaspora Business Summit is scheduled to start on Wednesday and last until February 15.
Focusing on Non-Oil Sectors
The first IBC was held in Guyana. The event is being organized by the bilateral Guyana-Suriname Chamber of Commerce, which brings together companies from both countries, especially from the oil and gas sector.
However, the conference’s focus goes beyond this sector, with special attention to non-oil sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, tourism, technology, and other services.
Minister’s Perspective
Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation (BIBIS) Minister Albert Ramdin said he believes that diversifying the economy is essential for Suriname’s future.
“It is important that we not only depend on oil and gas but also develop the other sectors. This conference offers a unique opportunity to attract international investments, which will lead to employment and stable, sustainable growth of our economy,” he said.
Business-to-Business Meetings and Diaspora Involvement
During the IBC, business-to-business meetings will take place, where companies can do concrete business and forge partnerships. Companies from various regions, including Southeast Asia, Africa, the Netherlands, America, Trinidad, Guyana, and Suriname, are expected to attend the conference. The conference offers a platform to facilitate investments and enter new markets.
Ramdin said that the first Diaspora Business Summit is designed to involve Surinamese entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, the United States, and other parts of the world in the economic development of their home country.
“The diaspora has an important role to play in the future of Suriname. We want to mobilize our diaspora’s capacities, networks, and knowledge to strengthen economic growth,” Ramdin said, noting that interest in Suriname is growing worldwide.
Conclusion
The Suriname government’s initiatives aim to promote prosperity and growth in the country, and the International Business Conference and Diaspora Business Summit are significant steps in this direction. By focusing on non-oil sectors and involving the diaspora, the government hopes to create a sustainable future for the country.
