The Mysterious Sailboat of Hanley Bay
A Chance Encounter
About 6 years ago, I went to Hanley Bay on the south coast of Nevis, and took a stroll along its beach. That’s when I saw something amazing – a sailboat stranded in the sand with nobody aboard.
I took a picture of it which showed the vessel’s name, and later forwarded it to a friend, as a sailor himself, might be able to trace its origin and where it had come from.
Unraveling the Mystery
The results, which were sent to me a week later, were amazing. The vessel had been owned by a famous lone sailor named Rob Mitchell, who had disappeared off the coast of Portugal after sailing through the Mediterranean.
Rob Mitchell’s body, still attached to a life jacket, had been found. It was assumed that the boat, named Katness, had sunk during a storm.
