Introduction to Botswana
Botswana, officially the Republic of Botswana, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. The country is topographically flat, with approximately 70% of its territory part of the Kalahari desert. With a population of slightly over 2.4 million people and a land area comparable to that of France, Botswana is one of the world’s most sparsely populated countries.
History and Economy
In 1889, the British colonized the area and declared it a protectorate named Bechuanaland. It became an independent commonwealth republic on 30 September, 1966. Its economy is dominated by mining and tourism, and is the world’s largest diamond producing country.
Natural Beauty and Game Parks
Botswana is renowned for its natural beauty and game parks. One of its major tourist attractions is the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which includes the Xigera Lodge, a unique resort which is part of the Red Carnation luxury chain of hotels in 19 countries.
Wildlife Encounters

Lodge Staff
And last, but not least: the lodge staff, including the manager, concierge, chef, driver/guide, bartender, and others – their service to guests, not to mention their genuine friendliness, was absolutely impeccable. For me as a guest in the wilderness, a truly memorable experience.
Conclusion
Botswana is a country that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and world-class tourism infrastructure. From the stunning landscapes to the diverse wildlife, there’s something for every type of traveler. Whether you’re interested in adventure, relaxation, or simply exploring new cultures, Botswana has something to offer.
