Strong Start to 2024 for Turks and Caicos Islands
The Turks and Caicos Islands have recorded a strong start to 2024, with nearly 1 million air and cruise passengers arriving in the first six months of the year.
Record-Breaking Numbers
A total of 998,854 visitors made their way to the island chain, including 408,749 air arrivals, marking a 13.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The number of cruise passengers also surged, with 590,105 visitors arriving by sea, up 19.5% from the previous year.
Standout Month for Cruise Tourism
June was a standout month, particularly for cruise tourism, with 110,504 passengers disembarking from 24 cruise calls—a significant 82% increase from June 2023. Air arrivals in June also saw a substantial rise, with 72,009 passengers, representing a 28.4% increase from the same month last year.
Looking Ahead
“We’re proud to build on such a successful start to the year as we gear up to welcome several new luxury resorts and properties in the second half of 2024 and beyond,” said Josephine Connolly, Turks and Caicos Minister of Tourism. “I am very excited about the new American Airlines flight into South Caicos in February, which will open up our multi-island destination to even more visitors.”
Looking ahead, Connolly highlighted American Airlines’ upcoming twice-weekly, year-round route from Miami to Norman B. Saunders Sr. Airport in South Caicos, set to begin on February 15. The new route coincides with the opening of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, adding to the island’s growing list of luxury accommodations.
New Developments
Several new properties are set to debut in Turks and Caicos in the coming months and years, including South Bank, which is slated to open in November; The Strand, a luxury and sustainable beachfront villas and custom residences development expected to open this fall; and the Andaz Turks and Caicos Residences at Grace Bay, the first Hyatt property on the island, which is set to open in late 2025 with 59 guestrooms.
Additional projects include The Loren at Turtle Cove, scheduled for a 2026 opening; The Point, a new Grace Bay Resorts residential offering with a planned late 2026 opening; and Kempinski Grace Bay, with an opening date yet to be announced.
Conclusion
As Turks and Caicos continues to attract a growing number of visitors, these new developments are set to further enhance the island’s appeal as a premier luxury destination.
