Two Canadians were killed and three injured in Lebanon as the fighting between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah escalated.
The news was confirmed by the Government of Canada, Global Affairs Canada told Global News that it was “aware of the deaths of two Canadian citizens” and was working to provide consular assistance. GAC further explained that privacy concerns stopped it from sharing more specific information.
Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly also reacted, expressing condolences to families of the killed and stating her goal was to ensure those affected are in communication.
As the situation progresses, Canadians in Lebanon, urged to leave the nation promptly, relying on commercials air travel for safe escapes instead of awaiting government-acquired evacuations. More recently, it has mentioned GAC inquired around it saw a rise to enquiries at the Emergency Warning & Response centre over days prior, largely connected from escape options, travel certificate requests, as well its request for travel visa permission and other details.
