About the Vulnerability Assessment
The city has received a grant from Resilient Florida, a program of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), to conduct a comprehensive city-wide Vulnerability Assessment. This assessment will focus on evaluating the impacts of climate change on facilities, critical infrastructure, roadways, and neighborhoods, particularly concerning sea level rise, extreme precipitation events, and changes to the groundwater table.
What the Assessment Will Provide
The findings from this study will provide crucial guidance and insights into the risks and vulnerabilities associated with climate change. It will enable the City to analyze and prioritize these risks based on factors such as likelihood, cost, spatial extent, and time horizon. By understanding the flood risks posed by climate change, West Miami aims to enhance its capacity for adaptation and resilience, laying the groundwork for a future Adaptation Plan.
Quote from the Mayor
“This meeting will be a major step towards a sustainable future as a community,” said Eric Diaz-Padron, Mayor of the City of West Miami. “Everyone’s voice is vital to the resilience of our future. Together, we build a city that thrives on the strength of its people.”
