Soca Warriors Name Squad for Upcoming Friendlies Against Jamaica
Coach Names Teenage Sensations in Squad
Soca Warriors head coach Dwight Yorke has named a 23-man squad that will play Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in two international friendlies next month. The squad includes teenage sensations Derrell Garcia, 17, and Lindell Sween, 18.
Friendlies Schedule
The first friendly is scheduled for February 6 at the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay, with the second game scheduled for February 9 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Kingston.
Coach’s Impressions
Speaking during a recent Zoom meeting, Yorke said he was impressed with what he had seen from the two youngsters. “We’ve got two young players I have seen in the domestic game, and we have overseen them. Those two players remind me of when I started playing football for the national team,” Yorke said.
Coach’s Philosophy
“This is an opportunity again to view the players, look at them, integrate our philosophies and ideas. As we go through the selection of the players, we have added a few new faces to ensure no stone is unturned. We looked at every possible footballer available to us. From college football (Secondary Schools Football League), right up to the men’s senior team and the domestic game,” he added.
Preparation for Concacaf Gold Cup
The Soca Warriors will use the upcoming friendlies as preparation for the Concacaf Gold Cup preliminary playoffs in March. They will play twice against Cuba—away on March 21 and at home on March 25.
