St. Kitts and Nevis Focuses on Cultural Heritage
As St. Kitts and Nevis continues to grow its tourism industry, stakeholders in the industry who attended the ‘I Speak St. Kitts Culture and Heritage Workshop 2022’ have been urged to share the message they learned with others.
The workshop, facilitated by CEO of Rooted in History, Mr. Leonard Stapleton, was attended by 25 employees in the public and private tourism sectors. The participants underwent a one-day workshop on November 2, 2022, and a full-day field trip on November 4, 2022, to cultural and heritage sites on the island.
Mrs. Diannille Taylor-Williams, Assistant Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Chair of the St. Kitts Sustainable Destination Council, urged the participants to share the message they learned with others. "Let us cause a revolution by passing on this information, and encouraging our people to have a sense of place because very often we hear the stories, and yet our young people they do not know the treasure that we have," she said.
The workshop came on the same day as the world’s largest cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas, made its inaugural call to Port Zante, bringing in 6,495 guests and 2,259 crew members. Mrs. Taylor-Williams informed the visitors that they were remarking how beautiful Basseterre is from the ship as they took pictures.

The ‘I Speak St. Kitts Culture and Heritage Workshop 2022’ aimed to share the island’s cultural diversity with its stakeholders in the tourism industry.
