New Flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe: What You Need to Know
A New Era of Travel to the French Caribbean
Together, Martinique and Guadeloupe make up the undisputed rum capital of the world. But it’s not just their unrivaled sugarcane that makes these French Caribbean islands so fascinating to visit. The rainforests, the volcanos, the exquisite French Caribbean fusion cuisine, the “Caribbean Pompeii,” and the beach bars all contribute to their allure.
New Flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe
Next month, it’s going to be easier than ever to visit these two islands, thanks to brand-new service on fast-expanding Caribbean Airlines, Caribbean Journal has learned. Beginning in early December, Caribbean Airlines will be connecting Martinique and Guadeloupe to three other source destinations in the region, including Dominica, Barbados, and Trinidad.

Routes and Schedules
Trinidad-Martinique service, which opens up Martinique to the vast number of international flights to Port of Spain, will begin Dec. 3. That route will also include connections to Barbados. Caribbean Airlines already operates New York-Trinidad, making for an itinerary from New York to Trinidad to Martinique. Of course, CAL’s site doesn’t allow you to book that trip on one ticket (you’ll have to book both itineraries separately).
On Dec. 7, Caribbean Airlines will launch flights to Guadeloupe, with service from Dominica and Barbados — but it’s the Barbados service, which connects Guadeloupe to Barbados’ broad network of flights both from the United Kingdom and the United States, that will be the most significant.

Flying Schedule
In all, Caribbean Airlines will be running flights to Martinique on Fridays, Sundays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays. Guadeloupe will see flights on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Caribbean Airlines has been in the midst of a serious expansion push across the Caribbean, with Guadeloupe and Martinique joining other new destinations for the airline like Puerto Rico, which kicked off back in July.

Future Plans
That will be followed by the first-ever CAL flights to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, which begin in mid-October.
What the Airlines Are Saying
The new flights are a “significant milestone for our island,” said Nathalie Sebastien, the president of Martinique’s Aime Cesaire International Airport. It’s true for Guadeloupe, too.
Tickets and Pricing
Tickets are already on sale for both destinations. So what will they cost? Thanks to local aviation taxes, there is serious variance even on similarly-timed flights. As an example, a roundtrip flight between Trinidad and Martinique is priced at $394.70, according to Caribbean Airlines’ site.
Conclusion
The new flights from Caribbean Airlines offer a convenient and exciting way to explore the French Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. With a range of routes and schedules to choose from, there’s never been a better time to plan your trip to these beautiful islands.
