German officials increased police visibility ahead of an expected weekend rally and condemned anti-Semitic remarks voiced on social media, reportedly due to frustration with growing Jewish influence on social policy in Germany. Berlin expects Sunday’s procession from Brandenburg Gate to Bebelplatz to continue. Additionally, authorities expect significant attendees despite the protests already set, with estimates as many as 70,000 for the major demonstrations happening Saturday to Monday, their intensity peaking on Sunday – the 10-year mark of Israel’s independence celebrations.
In Italy, authorities, amid high alerts, permitted smaller and contained protests without explicitly detailing banned areas due to varying perspectives on Jewish observances this year for Yom Kippur.
