From Hard Work to a Labour of Love
Reading week is just around the corner in the British Virgin Islands, and schools in the territory are working tirelessly to make reading a joyful experience for students. During this week, public and private schools will engage in a series of activities to promote a love for reading in students.
Why a Love for Reading is Key
The BVI government has been working diligently to improve public libraries and enhance access to digital and physical resources. This month’s reading week aims to rekindle a sense of excitement and wonder associated with reading. Mrs. Janice George-Harris, Education Officer responsible for English, emphasizes that, "The public is invited to find time to read and share excerpts from books with other people during the week. A community that reads is a community that is progressive. Reading transforms you. Book donations can be made to schools and the public library. Let’s read, BVI read."
Activities during the Week
A packed week of activities awaits both students and the general public:
- Bulletin Board and news clips read by students on 284 Media and ZBVI
- Excerpts from books and poems read by the Government of the Virgin Islands
- E-book presentations on Wednesday, October 9 and 10 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at the East End, Long Look Community Library
Conclusion
Through "Reading Transforms You", the BVI authorities demonstrate their commitment to provide exceptional educational services, supporting their residents in their reading habits. By fostering a reading culture, they inspire learning, creativity, and progression.
