41st Anniversary of Independence Address by Hon. Mark A.G. Brantley
Honourable Premier’s Address
Fellow citizens and residents,
As Premier and a citizen of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, I am deeply honoured to address you on this, the 41st Anniversary of our nation’s Independence.
The Significance of Independence
Forty-one years ago, on September 19, 1983, St. Kitts and Nevis took a courageous step into the unknown, charting a course of self-reliance and self-determination.
Building a Stronger Nation
As a nation, we have made significant progress in many areas, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and our economy. We have also developed strong social safety nets to support our most vulnerable citizens.
The Struggle Against Crime
However, we are not immune to the challenges that come with progress. We face issues such as violent crime, which affects not only the victims and their families but the entire country. It requires a multi-sectoral, multi-disciplinary and integrated approach to combat this menace.
Conclusion and Next Steps
On this 41st Independence Day, I invite you to reflect on the words of our national anthem and consider what kind of Federation do we desire. What kind of legacy do we want to leave for those who will come after us? A greater Federation for the next generation can only be achieved if we work together.
Fellow Citizens, Let Us Resolve
Together, let us continue to build on the legacy entrusted to us by our ancestors. Together, let us commit to working together in unity to create a more prosperous and resilient St. Kitts and Nevis. Together, let us use our collective strength and commitment for the growth and prosperity of our homeland.
